Frederick Duane Shisler

Frederick Duane Shisler, 84, of Kimmell died at 4:10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, at Avalon Village Nursing Home in Ligonier.

Mr. Shisler had been a lifetime area resident.

He was a farmer and had worked in various occupations through the years including serving as the caretaker of Sparta Cemetery for several years.

Mr. Shisler graduated from Albion-Jefferson High School.

He enjoyed mushroom hunting, dogs, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and most of all spending time with his family whom he dearly loved.

He was born Feb. 13, 1924, in York Township, Noble County, to Enoch and Gertrude (Doll) Shisler. He married Alice Haney on July 15, 1950. She preceded him in death on May 30, 2005.

Surviving are three sons and six daughters; Roger and Wendy Shisler of Ballston Spa, N.Y., Renee Dodson and her companion John of Albion, Rita and Tom Steele of Kimmell, Rex and Kathy Shisler of Albion, Nancy and Harry Neff III of Topeka, Ned and Lisa Shisler of Albion, Norma and Gary Watson of Van Buren, Indiana, Nelda and Gilbert Owen of Albion and Carol and Tim Lock of Albion; 11 grandsons, Alex, Travis, Toby, Gavin, Jared, Brandon, Jacob, Calaway, Chad, Ryan and Kyle; seven granddaughters, Pam, Kenna, Kylee, Tracy, Melinda, Darcy and Heather; six great-grandsons; six great-granddaughters; seven stepgrandsons; one stepgranddaughter; six stepgreat-grandsons; ten stepgreat-granddaughters; three stepgreat-great-grandsons; and two step great-great-granddaughters; two brothers, John and Sharon Shisler of LaOtto and Ted and Wanda Shisler of Dayton, Ohio; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Strater of Albion.

He was also preceded in death by one infant brother, two sons-in-law, Steve Glant and David Dodson, and a stepgreat-grandson, Harry Neff V.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, at Yeager Funeral Home in Ligonier with Pastor Jim Barnes officiating. Burial will be in Sparta Cemetery in Kimmell.

Calling will be from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and one hour prior to services Wednesday.
