William Lee Wood

William Lee Wood, age 91, of Elkhart, IN, went to be with the Lord with family at his side on Tuesday, September 19, 2017. He was born into this life on March 20, 1926, the son of William T. and Nettie B. Wood. On December 24, 1954, he married Norma Jean Balsley and they went on to share a life together for over 61 years. He is survived by their beloved daughters, Sue (Rex) Freshour and Judy (Richard) Meyer both of Elkhart; along with a grandson, Steven (Jennifer) Wolf of Elkhart. He was preceded in death by his wife and one brother, Robert Wood. William honorably served his country during WWII as a Sergeant in the Army Air Force and attended Brayton School of Aviation in St. Louis. After 44 years, he retired from Elkhart Airport where he was an aircraft mechanic and pilot. William was a man of great detail and many talents. He enjoyed crafting model airplanes and playing tennis. A private family service will be held in William’s honor with a burial to follow at Bremen Cemetery in Bremen, IN.
