Viva M. Meroney

Viva M. Meroney, 97, of Ligonier passed away Sunday, November 4, 2018 at North Ridge Village in Albion. She was born on October 8, 1921 to Ernest and Nellie (Duesler) Huff in Noble County.

Viva graduated from Ligonier High School with the class of 1940, and on August 6, 1941, she married Robert J. Meroney.  He has since preceded her in death on January 5, 2001.

Viva and her twin sister Vita, the youngest of six children, were raised on a farm.  In high school, Viva loved playing basketball.  Soon after graduating, she married Robert Meroney. They lived on a farm in Ligonier and had four children, three daughters and a son.  Viva was a dedicated homemaker, wife and mother, who worked in both the Ligonier Elementary and High School cafeterias for 28 years.  She was a member of Ligonier United Methodist Church and a member of the Good Samaritans in Ligonier.  She enjoyed gardening, and always had a big garden and beautiful flowers around her house.  She also liked to crochet, watch and feed the birds as well as spend time with her family.

Viva is survived by her four children, Lanny (Kathy) Meroney of Ligonier, Marsha Rhodes of Ft. Wayne, Carol (Paul) Kehr of Brownsburg, and Joy Friskney of Ligonier; eight grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and three great-great granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; two sisters, Marceil Bickel and Vita Isbell; and three brothers, Elton Huff, Arlo Huff, and Bill Huff.

A funeral service in Viva’s honor will be held at 1PM on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at Yeager Funeral Home - 1589 Lincolnway South Ligonier, IN 46767. Pastor Jean Ness will officiate with burial following at Oak Park Cemetery.

Friends and family may call from 3PM - 7PM on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at Yeager Funeral Home as well as from 12PM - 1PM prior to the service on Thursday.
