Virgil K. Schrock

Virgil Schrock, age 94, of Topeka, IN, passed away at 8:45 PM on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at Miller’s Merry Manor in La Grange, IN. He was born in LaGrange County, IN on April 8, 1923 the son of Amos and Beulah (Hershberger) Schrock. On June 27, 1949 he married Irene (Tustison). Together they shared nearly 75 years of marriage.

He is survived by his wife, Irene Schrock of Topeka, IN; four sons, Larry (Hilda) Schrock of Topeka, IN, Lowel (Companion, Debbie) Schrock of Paw Paw, MI, Lynn Schrock and  Lloyd Schrock, both of Rome City, IN; ten grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ernest Schrock; a sister, Fern Eash; along with two nephews.

Virgil served his country honorably in the United States Army Air Force during WWII and was stationed in Nome, Alaska. After his service in the Military he worked at Johnson Controls in Goshen, IN for over 30 years. Following that retirement he farmed for several years and retired again in 1984. Virgil enjoyed photography, golf, bowling, and trap shooting. In his younger years he raced stock cars and was given the name “Gunner Schrock”.  He was also a devout member of the Topeka United Methodist Church where he volunteered countless hours over the years.

A funeral service will held in Virgil’s honor on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at 10 AM at Topeka United Methodist Church, 124 West Pine Street; Topeka, IN 46571 . Pastor Kevin DeKoninck will officiate. Burial will follow at Eden cemetery in Topeka where full military honors will be conducted.

Family and friends will be received from 4-8 PM on Monday June 19, 2017 at Topeka United Methodist Church and also from 9-10 AM prior to the service on Tuesday.  Memorial contributions may be directed to Topeka United Methodist Church.
