Sondra Mae Cunningham-Luke

WAWAKA, IN - Sondra M. Cunningham - Luke, age 82, of Wawaka, IN passed away on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 11:33PM at the Avalon Village Nursing home in Ligonier, IN. She was born on December 10, 1935, the daughter of Ralph and J. Maud (Huff) Buchanan in LaGrange County, IN.  On December 31, 1955, she married Donald Cunningham in Wawaka, IN.  After 30 years of marriage, Don passed away on June 11, 1986.  Several years later she married Martin Luke on June 10, 1989. Martin has since passed away on May 6, 1998.

She is survived by her lovely children, Vickie (Mark) Musselman of Wawaka, IN; Jeffery (Jan) Cunningham of Wawaka, IN; granddaughter, Stacy Musselman of Churubusco, IN; step-granddaugther’s, Amanda (Josh) Marsh of Millersburg, IN and Kelly Reidenbach of Indianapolis, IN; brother, Arthur (Norma) Buchanan, of Ligonier, IN; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Marvin and Ellen Bridegam, both of Columbia City, IN; along with many nieces and nephews, and a very dear family friend Dave Smith of Albion, IN who was considered Sondra’s second son.

Sondra was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and J. Maud Buchanan, first husband, Don Cunningham, second husband, Martin Luke; daughter-in-law, Laura Cunningham; and sister-in-law, Dorothy (Donald) Zeigler.

Sondra was a very active member of the community.  She helped her husband on the farm and created a charming home for her family to live in.  She worked for Wirk Garment in Ligonier, Kline’s Department Store in Goshen, Dr. Alber in Ligonier, and the Ligonier - West Noble Day Care for several years. If she wasn’t working she spent her time with family and friends.  She also enjoyed being a member of the following clubs - Elkett’s Home Ec. Club, Noble County Historical Society, and the Noble County Genealogical Society. When Sondra was not at her club meetings, you could find her volunteering at the Noble County Public Library and helping with the Red Cross Blood Drive’s at the Ligonier, Recreation Center. She was a member of the Wawaka United Methodist Church until it’s closing on May 7, 2017.  After that she attended the Ligonier United Methodist Church.  Her hobbies included; gardening, cooking, baking, sewing, crafting, playing bingo, playing cards, and spending time post retirement traveling to enjoy the state of Florida.

A funeral service will be held in Sondra’s honor at 11 AM on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway South; Ligonier, IN 46767. Pastor Ed Gilmore will officiate . Burial will follow at Merriam Christian Chapel Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received from 3-8 PM on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 and from 10 AM until the time of the service on Thursday.
