Shirley Jean (Goodrich) Miller Coy, age 89, of Topeka, IN passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, IN. She was born April 6, 1928, the daughter of Donald C. and Goldie B. (Adair) Goodrich in Ormas, IN. On August 4, 1949 she married her late husband, Waldo Miller in Whitley County, IN. He passed away on April 27, 1987. On October 5, 1991, she married the late James L. Coy in Kimmell, IN. He passed away this past January.
Shirley really loved and cherished her family. She was considered an exceptional cook and was able to bake many different types of sweets. Shirley was a VIP grandparent for many years in the Topeka School System. She spent her career working as a social worker for the Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care center. Upon retirement in 2001, and at the age of 73, she was determined to play the Mountain Dulcimer instrument. She truly enjoyed being a caretaker for people and spending her time helping and serving at the Sparta United Church of Christ church.
She is survived by her children; Linda (Gary) Zehr of Evansville, IN, and Ronell “Ronnie” Miller of Kendallville, IN, step-children; Patricia A. Lintz of Mottville, MI; D. Joyce (Richard) Brown of Ligonier, IN; Michael J. (Donna) Coy of Syracuse, IN; grandchildren, Kate (Nick) Raben of Newburgh, IN, and Brandon (Tabitha) Zehr; great-grandchildren, Dax Butler, Amelia Zehr, Finn Raben, Brooke Zehr, Mae Raben and Leo Raben; sister, Ellen Metzger of Angola, IN along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Waldo Miller, second husband, James Coy; siblings, Aileen Hill, Billie Schuman, Hale Goodrich, Phil Goodrich, and Lynn Goodrich.
A funeral service will be held at Yeager Funeral Home; 1589 Lincolnway South Ligonier, IN 46767 on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 11:00AM.
Pastor Curryanne Hostetler will officiate.
A burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery in Topeka, IN following the service.
Family and Friends may gather on Friday, May 19, 2017 from 3PM-7PM at the funeral home.
