Ruth Ann Hite

August 15, 1938 — November 7, 2023

Ruth Ann Hite, 85, of Ligonier, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 in Kendallville, Indiana. She was born on August 18, 1938, the daughter of Frank and Erma (Deam) Gregg. On February 18, 1967, she married Bill Hite of Ligonier. They raised two children, Rebecca Ann (Becky) Stoltzfus and Harlan Dean Hite.  She has one grandchild, Bryan Thomas Stoltzfus, who was her pride and joy. She is also survived by her sister, Carolyn Higdon-Carrithers; her brothers, Mike (Ginny) Gregg, Ted (Sheila) Gregg, and Rick (Ruth) Gregg. She had multiple nieces and nephews that she was very close to. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Bill Gregg.

Ruth Ann was a dedicated nurse in South Bend before meeting Bill and settling down as a Farm wife and mother. She prided herself in growing, freezing, and canning food for her family and doing everything a good farm wife did. She later returned to nursing after her children left for college, this time working in geriatrics in the various area nursing homes, being a valuable employee.

She was a strong Christian and an active member of Burr Oak Church for over 50 years. She was a Sunday School teacher, Sunday School treasurer, and active member of any committee that asked her to serve.

Ruth Ann joined the Chatterbelles Extension Homemaker Club when she moved to the area, and as an active member, that is where she met many of her closest friends. She loved being part of the service organization and enjoyed working at the fair and laughing with her friends.

She was also active in the Noble County Republicans, being Perry Township Vice Chairman for many years, and was active in the Noble County Republican Women. She became a member of the DAR, was very proud of her patriots, and loved her country dearly. Other organizations were the Quilt Club at Fountain of The Sun and Noble Knitters of Noble County. Ruth Ann loved to be of service to help all that she knew. Never one to be idle, it was tough to slow her down, even as her health was failing. She was always appreciative of the cards and other ways that she was remembered….often showing family and seeming surprised that she would receive these remembrances. She was well-loved and thought of by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.

A funeral service will be held in Ruth’s honor at 11 am on Monday, November 13, 2023 at Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway South, Ligonier, Indiana 46767. Pastor Joey Nelson will officiate. Burial will take place at Oak Park Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received from 4-7pm on Sunday, November 12, 2023 at Yeager Funeral Home.
