Richard E Frye

April 5, 1937 — April 30, 2025

Richard (Dick) Frye, age 88 of Punta Gorda, Florida and formerly of Rome City, Indiana passed away after a short illness in Port Charlotte, Florida.  Dick was born on April 5, 1937, in Bluffton, Indiana, the oldest son of Forrest and Mary Frye.

On September 18, 1955, he married Ardonna Sager at Sugar Grove Church of the Nazarene in Pennville, Indiana and they shared 66 years of marriage before her death in 2021.  They spent their early married life raising their five children and enjoying following their grandchildren’s activities in their later years.

Dick was a high school athlete who enjoyed sports throughout his life, serving as a baseball coach while his sons were growing up and rooting for his grandchildren in his later years.  He was an early fan of the Cleveland Indians and a diehard (and long suffering) fan of the Chicago Cubs.  He was an avid fan of Indiana basketball and was never shy about sharing his opinions regarding the team.  Dick was also an avid reader and enjoyed fishing.

He is survived by his five children - Connie Nicodemus of Fort Wayne IN, Richard (Melody) Frye of Elkhart IN, Robert (Gale) Frye of Punta Gorda FL, Randall (Trish) Frye of Kendallville IN and Karen (Douglas) Hoover of Howe IN – and by 11 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

He was proceeded in death by the love of his life Ardonna, a son-in-law Terry Nicodemus, a granddaughter Katie Frye, both parents, a sister and three brothers.

A graveside service will be held in Dick’s honor on Saturday June 7, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Sparta Cemetery in Kimmell, IN.  Memorial contributions can be made to Riley’s Children Foundation, 500 N. Meridian Street, Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN  46204. Yeager Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
