Ralph R. Covey, Jr.

Ralph "Chip" Raymond Covey, Jr., 73, of Topeka passed away Friday, August 16, 2024 at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne. He was born to Ralph Raymond, Sr. and Iva Jane (McCray) Covey on July 13, 1951 in Albion, MI.

Ralph was a dedicated worker and foreman for Star of the West for over 40 years. He practically lived in his office and was always wearing his uniform. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed watching the news, taking road trips to Florida, visiting Disney World, and fishing in his younger days. Ralph was an avid reader of the newspaper and drove to Ligonier from Topeka every morning for his daily paper and cup of coffee. He also loved eating out at Fashion Farm and Tiffany’s.

Ralph had an excellent sense of humor, and wasn’t afraid to be ornery. He dressed up as Santa for his kids more than once, even though they weren’t fooled. Ralph didn’t know a stranger and on one occasion he rode the church bus dressed as a clown, which pretty much sums up his silly personality. Ralph was also known to be a generous man. He loved the Lord and attended Ligonier Church of the Nazarene for several years.

Ralph is survived by his wife, Ethelyn Covey; two sons, Eric (Jennifer) Covey and Corey (Elizabeth) Covey; a daughter, Kayla J. Covey; eight grandchildren, Dylan Covey, Stephanie Covey, Rowan Covey, Leon Covey, Atreyu Mason, Rayne Dotson, Silas Tharp, and Melody Tharp; one great grandchild, Kyrie Landeros; and eight siblings, Laura (Chester) Gibson, Helen Zimmerman, Judy (Bill) Ansell, Brenda Outman, David (Doreen) Covey, Jack (Chris) Covey, Ron (Deb) Covey, and Keith (Nicole) Covey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Jim Covey.

The family will host a memorial service in Ralph’s honor at 12 PM on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at the Ligonier Church of the Nazarene, 1102 S Martin St, Ligonier, IN 46767. Pastor Josh Sheets will officiate.
