Phyllis D. Smith, 94, of Ligonier, formerly of Westler Lake, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2026 at Chandler's Place in Kendallville.

She was born on June 7, 1931 in Kimmell to the late Charlie and Susie (Rarick) Birch.

On June 18, 1949, Phyllis married the love of her life, Charles Smith in Ligonier. He preceded her in death in December of 2015.

She, along with Charles owned and operated Chuck Smith Auto Parts in Albion for 25 years until their retirement in 1994.

She is survived by her daughters, Becky (David) Spencer and Karen Long; grandchildren, Shelly (John) Altimus, Kim (Brent) Caroline, Josh (Lindsay) Spencer, Ryan (Cortney) Spencer, and Randy (Amber) Stillings; 10 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; 3 step great-great grandchildren; and a brother, Jack Birch.

She was also preceded in death by 7 siblings.

Cremation services will take place and a private burial will follow at a later date at Sparta Cemetery.

Memorials in Phyllis' name may be directed to Lagrange County Council on Aging.
