Phil E. Yoder, 88, of Topeka, IN, passed away unexpectedly, September 15, 2018 at Parkview LaGrange Hospital. He was born on July 27, 1930 in Goshen, IN to Jonas D. and Bertha F. (Plank) Yoder. He married Mary “Sue” Speicher on June 18, 1954 in Goshen, IN.
He is survived by his four Sons: Jay D. Yoder of Mt. Vernon, OH, Tim P. (Kendra) Yoder of Palmetto, FL, Peter S. (Andrea) Yoder of LaOtto, IN and Dennis B. (Becky) Yoder of Middlebury, IN; a Daughter, Kerin D. Miller of Topeka, IN; four Grandchildren: Jordan (Amanda) Yoder, Tyler Yoder, Sharisse Yoder and Peyton Miller; five sisters: Martha (Wayne) Zimmerman, of Readly, CA, Dena Taylor of Bucyres, OH, Vera (Dan) Steiner of Goshen, IN, Nancy (Don) O'Brien of Greeley, CO, and Erma (Dick) Yaussy of Newton, NC.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mary “Sue” Yoder; and parents, Jonas and Bertha Yoder.
Mr. Yoder was a Farmer and spent his spare time woodworking or restoring Allis Chalmers Tractors. He spent 13 years singing with the Gospel Messengers. He also enjoyed wintering in Florida with his wife and vacationing with his sisters. Making memories with his children and grandchildren was a very important part of his life. Friends could find him solving the world's problems at the round table at the Six Mile restaurant in LaGrange, or drinking a cup of coffee at the Emma Cafe. His family will remember him for his humble and kind nature and will be truly missed by everyone.
Friends and family may gather at the Topeka Mennonite Church on Friday, September 21, 2018 from 2-4PM and 6-8 PM.
There will be a time for a final reflection from 9AM-10AM on Saturday September 22, 2018 with a formal procession to form at 10AM for the burial at Maple Grove Cemetery in Topeka. A Funeral Service in Phil’s honor will be held at Topeka Mennonite Church -- 206 E. Lake Street in Topeka, IN at 11AM following the graveside committal. Pastor Gene Hartman will officiate.
