Percy Donald Morrow

August 22, 1935 — June 9, 2025

Ligonier

Percy Donald Morrow, age 89, departed this life on Monday, June 9th, 2025. Dad would just say "Well, I'm dead", and that would be the end of that. But every now and then dad would let someone else get their way. So... Here we are.

Dad was born in Meadville, PA on August 22, 1935, to Harry John & Bessie Louise (Fisher) Morrow. Percy was the 6th of 7 children. Percy was proceeded in death by his parents and his brothers Carl, Edward, John, and Duane (Ronnie) Morrow, and one sister Ruth Burt Cornwell.

Percy is survived by his daughter Evelyn (Brent) Ackerman of Topeka, granddaughters Cora and Tamara Ackerman, and his gravy maker Malcolm Morrison. A sister Martha Sherman of Girard PA, and several nieces & nephews.

My father drove semi long haul over the road for many many years. He hauled for several companies over the years out of Pennsylvania and Indiana. Shafer Trucking and Starcraft Monark Marine are some the more recent companies' dad drove for. Earlier this year dad and I were talking about all the years he drove, and I asked him how many times he thought that he crossed the country, and he thought it was higher than 500 times!

Some time in the 1950's, Percy joined the United States Marine Corps and served his beloved country. He went back to driving semi's after leaving the USMC. Sometime in the 1980's, he met his late wife Delcie Morrow who passed in August of 2024.

After Dad retired in the mid 90's he started hauling construction crews and eventually went to work for Glen Yoder at Four Woods Laminating. And started his career driving Amish.

Dad loved talking to people, Harold Gingerich was one of dad's favorite people to yell at while he was up town 'watching people through the back of his eyelids'. Every time he would see Harold he would always shout 'better watch out, the devil is coming for you'.

Dad loved playing Santa Claus at Christmas time. He was the Topeka town Santa for several years and also Ligonier American Legion Post 243's Santa. Dad loved seeing everyone happy. Dad bought a sleigh from his sister years ago and dad had wheels put on an attachment and had that added to the sleigh in case there was never enough snow Santa could still come to town if snow wasn't present.

All the way until the end dad lived on his own and he never gave up. Dad was always determined to get things done. I guess its time to say Dad "I'll take it from here". 10-4 and good night.
