Paula Vargas

Paula Vargas, age 84, of Ligonier, Indiana passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Avalon Village in Ligonier, Indiana. She was born on June 25, 1939 to Juan and Paula De Los Santos in Vallehermoso, Tamaulipas, Mexico. On December 6, 1959, she married Jose Vargas in Vallehermoso.

She is survived by her husband to whom she was married for 64 years, Jose Vargas of Ligonier; four children, Arturo (Nellie) Vargas of Goshen, Ricardo (Sonia) Vargas of Goshen, Bernice (Benito Sr.) Landeros of Ligonier, and Samuel (Tina) Vargas of Summerville, South Carolina; thirteen grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Carlos De Los Santos of Arizona, Samuel De Los Santos of Texas, and Jose De Los Santos of Texas.

She was one of 16 children and was preceded in death by her parents and 12 siblings.

Paula loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, dearly and served Him alongside her husband Jose. They pastored the church they founded together, Templo Elim Assemblies of God, in Weslaco, Texas for many years. Paula loved her family, church, and community with her whole heart and spent her life serving others. She is still well remembered for her hospitality, specifically for her delicious tamales that she loved to cook for family and friends.

A funeral service will be held in Paula’s honor on Tuesday, February 20th at 11 am at Yeager Funeral Home in Ligonier, Indiana. 1589 Lincolnway South, Ligonier, IN 46767.

Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Yeager Funeral Home on Monday, February 19th, and also from 10-11 am on Tuesday prior to the service.
