Nancy E. Becker

Nancy E. Becker, age 75, of Syracuse, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 22, 2023 at Goshen Hospital, following a brief illness. She was born on September 26, 1948 in Marion, Indiana to Earl and Gertrude (Christianson) Gates.  Nancy married Lyle E. Becker on November 23, 1968.  He passed away on January 29, 2023.

Nancy is survived by her children, Andrea "DeeDee” (Tom) Schermerhorn of Ligonier, Mike Becker of Wawaka; seven grandchildren, Rachel (Luke) Fisher, Elle Saggars, Zachary (Victoria) Becker, Madison Schermerhorn, Luke Schermerhorn, Mia Becker, Lyla Becker; and two great-grandchildren, Blair  and Blake McNamara.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother, Bill Gates; and granddaughter, Allison Schermerhorn.

Nancy graduated from Marion High School in 1966. She then attended International Business College and received her associate’s degree. This is also where she met her beloved husband. When Nancy’s children were young she stayed home to raise her children. As the children were older she worked as an office manager at Paul R. Becker and Sons for over 20 years. She enjoyed cooking, watching her grandchildren participate in activities, family get-togethers, spoiling her children and grandchildren, and making others feel important. She also loved being in the sunshine by her pool or on the sand at Panama City Beach.  She was never afraid to pitch a baseball, shoot a basket, or play a game of 4-square. She also loved her pets, especially her golden retriever, Mitzi.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held in Nancy’s honor on Sunday, January 7, 2023 at 3pm at Maxwelton Golf Club, 5721 E, Line Road, Syracuse, IN 46567. Pastor Dave Hilbish will officiate. Family and friends will be received from 1-3 pm prior to the service on Sunday. Guests are encouraged to bring a story or a memory to share about Nancy.

Cremation will take place at Legacy Cremation and Remembrance Center in Ligonier.
