Montgomery "Monte" E. Tope

Montgomery E. “Monte” Tope, age 78, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away on December 7, 2021 at his residence. He was born January 4, 1943 to Gayle E. Tope and Virginia L. (Bucher) Miller. Montgomery married Janice (Erickson) Tope on January 6, 1965 in Elkton, Maryland. She passed away on February 17, 2004.

Montgomery is survived by his son, Monty (Angie) Tope of Columbia City; 3 Grandchildren, Andrew (Nicole) Tope of Columbia City, Shannon Tope of Columbia City and Ryan (Kyndra) Tope of Fort Wayne; 2 great-grandchildren; brothers, Jack (Rosalee) Tope of New Paris, Gary (Peg) Tope of Madison, Indiana and Jerry (Jill) Miller of Whitney, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and several brothers and sisters.

A memorial service will take place at 1pm on December 18, 2021 at Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway South, Ligonier, Indiana 46767. Pastor Jean Ness will officiate. Military graveside honors will take place at Sparta Cemetery with his wife Janice. A gathering of family and friends will take place 2 hours prior to the service.

Montgomery enjoyed woodworking and riding motorcycles. He was a member of the American Legion Post 98 in Columbia City. Memorial contributions may be made to Whitley County Hospice, 2806 Theater Ave # A, Huntington, Indiana 46750.
