Melody Meyer, 70, of Ligonier, Indiana, passed away on August 23rd following a lengthy illness. She was born on July 13, 1956, in New Castle, Indiana, to Patty and Leo Little. She grew up in Hagerstown and graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1974. She resided in Ligonier since 1986.
Melody shared 51 years of marriage with her husband, Steven. Together, they raised two daughters, Julie and Rebecca.
Melody thrived in the presence of others and was fiercely protective of those she loved. Her favorite days involved visiting with family and friends, sharing and listening to stories, and simply helping others, especially children. She worked as assistant director at West Noble Daycare for several years, where her servant’s heart made an impact.
She was a parishioner of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ligonier and enjoyed serving as lector until her health concerns impeded attendance.
Melody was an avid reader and animal lover. She enjoyed walking, watching hummingbirds, gathering around campfires and listening to oldies music, especially Elvis. A trip to Graceland in 2018 was one of her favorite adventures.
Melody was deeply invested in her daughters’ success. She ensured they had academic opportunities she hadn’t been able to pursue for herself. Seeing Julie become a clinical mental health counselor and Rebecca earn a doctorate of education was a source of immense pride for her.
In 2014, Melody received a kidney transplant. Though she never learned the donor’s identity, she remained grateful for this life-saving gift. Melody honored that generosity by becoming a tissue donor after her death.
Melody is survived by her husband, Steven; daughters, Julie Meyer of Indianapolis and Rebecca (Touhami) Meyer Melha of Greenville, South Carolina; and beloved grandson, Adam Meyer Melha, who was her favorite person. She is survived by her siblings, Tim(Cheryl) Little of Mooreland, Lisa Little of Hagerstown, cousin Jeff (Mary) Thalls of Hagerstown, sister-in-law Judy (Jeff) Stuart of Muncie, and bonus daughter Heather Allee of Indianapolis. She is also survived by chosen family, Angelica Campos, Juan “Edward” Campos, Ali Vallejo, Julian Campos, Elena Campos, Raven Vallejo, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Patty (Thalls) and Leo Little, and a brother, Rick Little.
Visitation will be held at Yeager Funeral Home in Ligonier on Sunday, August 30 th , from 2:00-5:00 PM. The funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, August 31, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ligonier. Father Wilson Corzo will preside. Melody’s remains will be interred at West Lawn Cemetery in Hagerstown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The National Kidney Foundation, Indiana Donor Network, or mental health programming at Jefferson Township Public Library in Hagerstown.
