Marshall Baker

Marshall Baker, age 84, of Topeka, Indiana passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at The Waters of Syracuse. He was born on July 8, 1939 the son of  Tinsley A. and Elsie (Eldridge) Baker in Hazard, Kentucky. On December 23, 1961, he married Peggy Colwell, she preceded him in death on February 18, 2015.

Marshall worked for Smokercraft in New Paris for over 40 years. He loved gardening, fishing, hunting, and anything that involved being outdoors. Marshall enjoyed playing checkers, cards, and horseshoes. He especially enjoyed being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by two daughters, Sharon (Lowell) Johnson of Topeka and Lori (Gable) Shrock of Ligonier; four grandchildren, Brandon (Lynlee) Howard of Wolf Lake, Makala (Sean) Reidy of Elkhart, Chelsea (Clay) Preston of Syracuse and Austin (Kayla) Shrock of Kendallville; 9 great-grandchildren; siblings, Seba (Jim) Hanko of Lexington, Kentucky, Helen Dixon of Michigan, Thelma King of Michigan, and Barb (John) Owens of El Paso, Texas; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 53 years, Peggy Baker; an infant daughter, Priscilla Baker; and siblings, Arlie Baker, Mildred Baker, Reba Hamblin, and Betty Lou Stidham.

A funeral service will be held in his honor at 11 am on Tuesday, April  9, 2024 at Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway South, Ligonier, IN 46767. Pastor Mel Eash will officiate. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Topeka, IN

Family and friends will be received from 6-8 pm on Monday, April 8, 2024 at the funeral home and also from 10-11 am prior to the service on Tuesday.
