Larry Hartzler

Larry N. Hartzler, age 88, of Ligonier, IN passed away unexpectedly at 10:14 am on Friday, May 24, 2024 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, IN. He was born on June 24, 1935, the son of Roy and Mae (Steele) Hartzler in rural LaGrange County, IN.  On May 21, 1960, he married Linda Lou Johnson in Ligonier, IN.

He is survived by two children, Amy (Ted) Groff and Darrell Hartzler, both of Ligonier, IN; two grandchildren, Seth (Amanda) Groff of New Paris, IN and Quinn (Jenna) Groff of Topeka, IN; great-granddaughters, Eleanor Groff and Halley Groff; and a sister, Royann Sprunger of Albion, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother Quentin Hartzler.

Larry graduated from Topeka High School in 1953 and served in the United States Army from 1954-56. Larry worked for the Indiana State Police as a Weighmaster for over 21 years retiring for the first time in 1979. He was Co-owner of C & P Oil Company in Millersburg for over 38 years and also farmed for over 30 years. Larry eventually retired for the last time at the age of 86. He was a member of Burr Oak Church in Ligonier, IN for 60 years and also volunteered at the Ligonier Visitors Bureau.

A funeral service will be held in Larry’s honor on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at 11 am. Bo Lutton will officiate. Burial will follow at Oak Park Cemetery in Ligonier, IN.

Family and friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 pm on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at Yeager Funeral Home. There will also be visitation from 10-11am prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
