IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kent L.
Cunningham
April 27, 1941 – February 19, 2026
Celebration of Life
Kent’s Shed
2:00 - 4:00 pm (Eastern time)
Kent Cunningham was born on April 27, 1941, to Frederick R. Cunningham and Rose V. (Schrock) Cunningham. He graduated from Ligonier High School in 1959. Although he originally planned to work alongside his dad on the family farm, shortly after graduation he was invited to join American State Bank in downtown Ligonier—an opportunity that shaped the next five decades of his life.
In 1970, Kent graduated from the School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin. During his time there, he witnessed a turbulent moment in history when a bomb exploded on campus amid protests of the Vietnam War. Kent went on to build a remarkable 53-year career in banking. While he took pride in his work, his heart was always on the farm.
Kent raised, competed with, and judged numerous show sheep throughout the years. After retiring, he continued his love of farming by raising cattle.
He also had a lifelong passion for basketball. Kent played in high school and later in independent leagues, including memorable games at two Indiana penitentiaries. He continued playing regularly with family and friends until the age of 60. After his basketball years, he enjoyed running and later discovered a love for pickleball.
In recent years, Kent found simple joy in watching deer feed in the woods, especially on the corn he faithfully put out for them.
Kent is survived by his wife of 35 years, Lori (Maloney) Cunningham; his three children, Tammy (Tom) Moser, Gaylord (Nancy) Cunningham, and Abby (Jon) Boyajian; his six grandsons—Tyler, Trevor, Derrick, Darin, Loren, and Rex; and fourteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Kay (Stan) Mithoefer, along with nieces and nephews who were all special to him.
Kent was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Kyle F. Cunningham.
The family would like to invite friends and extended relatives to a Celebration of Kent’s Life on Saturday, April 25, 2026 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. at ‘Kent’s Shed’, 606 Diamond Lake Road, Ligonier.
Memorials in Kent’s honor may be made to the Fred & Rose Memorial Fund.
Kent’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Rachel Taylor and the incredible staff at Avalon Village.
