Judith L. Mccullough

Judith L. “Judy” McCullough, age 86, of Albion, entered peacefully into the presence of the Lord on October 22, 2021 in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  She was born to Glenn and Elizabeth (Wilson) Hire on February 10, 1935 in Whitley County, Indiana. Judy attended school in Wolf Lake and, following high school, worked at Weatherhead in Syracuse. She married Thomas McCullough of Churubusco on June 11, 1954 and they raised their family together in Syracuse, Indiana. He passed away on December 16, 2013.

Although Judy worked a variety of jobs outside the home throughout her life, her primary joys were her family and her church. Judy enjoyed being outside and close to nature and was a Master Gardener. She was active at Stone’s Hill Community Church in Ligonier, where she taught Sunday School and Bible classes and was active in many outreach ministries. Judy was the hands and feet of Jesus in this world as she reached out to help and comfort others. A true servant, she felt her calling was to minister to others. Although Alzheimer’s disease ravaged her memory, she remained a stalwart Christian who read her Bible and prayed daily. On October 22, 2021 she was rewarded with words from her Father that she had been waiting to hear her entire life “Welcome home, good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of the Lord.”

Judy is survived by her children; Larry McCullough of Albion, Lani (Warren) Elliott of Fort Wayne, Lynn (Kathy) McCullough of Ligonier; 9 grandchildren; 11great-grandchildren and brother, Keith (Sherry) Hire of Fort Wayne. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Glenn Hire, Jon Hire, Don “Butch” Hire and sisters, Barbara Smith and Patricia Speaker.

A funeral service will be held in Judith’s honor at 11am on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at Stones Hill Community Church, 151 W. Stones Hill Road, Ligonier, Indiana 46767. Deb Schermerhorn will officiate. Burial will take place at Merriam Christian Chapel Cemetery, Albion, Indiana. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 9:00-11:00 am prior to the funeral service on Wednesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made the family.
