Janice L. Elliott, 82, of Columbia City, formerly of Ligonier/Cromwell, left Miller’s Oak Pointe to be home with the Lord on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, in Columbia City, IN.
She was born August 21, 1943, to Sevren and Orva Jean (Dougherty) Herl in Salina, Kansas.
On November 30, 1963, she married Patrick Lee Elliott at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Salina, Kansas, and together they raised their two daughters.
She was a faithful member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Ligonier. Janice dedicated many years of service to West Noble Elementary School in their kindergarten classrooms. She also assisted Noble County’s well-known Santa Claus as a jolly old elf, spreading cheer for over 40 years throughout the Noble County area. Additionally, she served as President of St. Patrick’s Rosary Sodality and taught for many years as a Religious Education teacher. She had a strong dedication to supporting community residents by assisting and serving with the Cromwell-Kimmell Lions Club.
Janice will be dearly missed by her daughters, Leah (Mark) Beck of Columbia City, Indiana, and Trina (Ryan) Pauley of Beavercreek, Ohio; her grandchildren, Patrick (Michelle) Hazelton, Katie (Colten) Combs, Kylee Pauley, Sarah (Jeff) Campbell, and Jessica (Oscar) Vargas; 6 great-grandchildren; her brother, Wayne Herl of Texas; two sisters, Lana (Mike) Moore of Kansas and Karen Herl of Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sevren Herl and Orva Jean & Frank Schmidt; her brother Blaine Terrell Herl; her sister Susie Koerner; and son-in-law Bruce Hazelton.
A Memorial Calling will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. at Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway S., Ligonier, Indiana.
