Isabella Liebetrau

October 12, 1942 — March 21, 2024

Isabella H.S. Liebetrau, age 81, of Syracuse, Indiana went to be with The Lord on March 21, 2024 at Avalon Village in Ligonier Indiana.

She was born on October 12, 1942, daughter of Jacobus & Maria (Brand) Louw in Namakwaland Springbok in South Africa.

Isabella is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Karel Liebetrau, Syracuse; their children: Gorette (Brendan) from Chicago, Shelley (Mornay) from Cape Town, Hester Siquilla from Warsaw, Indiana; 6 beautiful grandchildren, Daniel, Fredick, Zach, Joshua, Callum and Sybella. Isabella is also survived by one brother, Mannetjie (Miemie), 2 sisters Anita (Dave) and Miemie in South Africa.
Karel and Issie emigrated to America 10 years ago from Malmesbury, South Africa.

Isabella was one of 10 siblings and was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, JS (Mona), Gideon (Martha), Haas (Marees), Hannes (Claudine); sisters, Baba and Marie; and her beloved only son, Freddy Swart who passed away in 2013 of ALS.

Isabella was a gifted nurse and had several accounting jobs over the years but her love and life was taking care of her family and doting on her grandchildren. She loved reading with a passion, gardening and being out in nature. She also loved her Lord and Savior and her favorite Psalm was Psalm 23. She would often hum "For we have a friend in Jesus" while cooking.

She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and compassion and will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.
A celebration of Isabella's life will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 210 S High Street, Warsaw, Indiana 46580.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Avalon's Staff who treated her in the last 6 months of her life with utmost care and compassion!
