Henry “Rooks” Mackey, age 87, of Columbia City, Indiana passed away at 8:02 pm on Sunday, March 31, 2024 at home surrounded by his family. He was born on June 23, 1936, the son of Herbert and Christine (Stigers) Mackey. On February 24, 1962, he married Judith Worsfold and they just celebrated 62 years of marriage.
Rooks attended school in Ossian, Indiana and served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps. He worked for the railroad for over 30 years and retired from Conrail in the late 1990’s. Rooks was a HAM Radio Operator and enthusiast. He also enjoyed throwing frisbee, playing cards, Yatzee and winning. He coached baseball and was very involved in the Boy Scouts as leader when his children were growing up. Rooks was also a member of Lincolnway Church of Christ in Columbia City, where he was the song leader for many years. Above all, he loved his family dearly and enjoyed being with them.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Judith Mackey of Columbia City, IN; four children, Kerry (Kim Anderson) Mackey of Las Vegas, NV, Kevin (Pam Milbourne) Mackey of Eastern Shore, VA, Brian (Terril) Mackey of Williston, ND, and Dylan (Matt) Kreager of Ligonier, IN; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; siblings, Tish Snyder of Monroeville, IN and David (Darlene) Mackey of Franklin, TN; along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Christine, Pauline, & Audrey.
There will be a gathering of friends and family held on Sunday, April 7, 2024 from 1:30 to 3:30 at Lincolnway Church of Christ, 600 W. Lincolnway, Columbia City, IN 46725. A private burial will take place at Blue River Cemetery in Columbia City.
