Gary Lawrence

June 4, 1945 — May 26, 2025

Cromwell

Gary Lawrence (79), of Cromwell, went to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, May 26, 2025. Gary was born to Jennie Lorraine Kuhn Lawrence (Miller) and Jesse Willmore Lawrence of North Webster on June 4, 1945. After graduating from North Webster High in 1963, Gary enlisted into the United States Marine Corps. While stationed in Yuma, AZ, he met his beloved future wife Armenda Bailey. They were married June 4, 1965. Gary was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in 1967 with the rank of Sergeant having served as a meteorologist for his base. He and Armenda then moved back to Indiana where they would start their family and live out the remainder of his life.

Gary had a variety of vocations including factory line, sales, building manufactured homes, managerial, working at several lumber yards and even teaching. He was a jack of all trades. Even during retirement he was the Sparta Township Trustee and oversaw the construction of the Cromwell fire station.

Gary was a member of the Ligonier American Legion Post 243 and served as chaplain for them, often playing Taps for special services. He was a member of the Ligonier Evangelical Church for over 45 years, serving in various ways including leading the Junior Church. Recently he and Armenda had been attending the Ligonier Nazarene Church.

Gary seemed to never meet a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. He loved a good joke even if it was about his lack of hair or his height. He will be truly missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents Jesse and Lorraine Lawrence, his stepfather Wayne Miller, his siblings Donald Lee Lawrence, Charlotte Morin, and granddaughter Carol Hancock.

Surviving are his beloved wife of nearly 60 years, Armenda Lawrence. His children Trudy (Chris) Hancock of Van Buren, Tim (Carmen) Lawrence of McCordsville, David (Beth) Lawrence of Culver, Joy (Derek) Pacifico of Fairmont, WV.. His grandchildren, who he adored, Savannah, Liam, James, Kate, Luke, David, Gabriel, Audrey, Aaron, Lyra, Keagan, Autumn, Wesley, and Gavin. As well as his brother Mike Lawrence and several nieces and nephews.
