Esther Mae Shallenbarger

Esther Mae Shallenbarger is with Jesus today and for eternity.

Esther, age 89, was born June 15, 1933 to Benjamin and Anna Lehman in Wayne County, Ohio.

She passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on December 19, 2022 at Greencroft Healthcare where she had resided for seven years.

Esther married Richard Shallenbarger June 9, 1973. He preceded her in death January 6, 2015.

She was a graduate of Heston College, Goshen College, and Ball State University. Esther taught art in the Westview School Corporation for 29 years, retiring in 1998.

Esther was a member of the Topeka Mennonite Church. She was active in the church’s children’s Sunday school program, Bible school, spiritual council, women’s group, and served on the Christian Education Committee.

She is survived by two sons, Jim (Cindy) Shallenbarger of Goshen and John Lung of Elkhart; two daughters, Dorothy (Lee) Miller and Canda Quinn, both of Goshen; 11 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; one brother, Paul (Elaine) Lehman of Wooster, Ohio; one sister, Arlene Miller of Shreve, Ohio; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Along with her husband and parents, Esther was preceded in death by a great granddaughter, Catherine Stewart; two brothers, Ray and Glen; and a sister, Ruth Stoudt.

In keeping with Esther's wishes, no public visitations or services are planned. Esther will be laid to rest at Maple Grove Cemetery in Topeka.
