Elizabeth E Sanford

Elizabeth “Bette” Sanford, age 91, of Ligonier, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2025, in Syracuse, Indiana. She was born on November 27, 1933, to Luis Ernest Damon and Madeline (Roberts)  Steinbarger in Wawaka, Indiana.  She married Kenneth Sanford on August 14, 1968, in Ligonier, Indiana. He passed away on July 31, 2012.

Bette is survived by her children, Brian (Jill) Hazelton of Hamlet, IN, Gregory (Judy) Sanford of St. Albans, MO, Russel (Carolyn) Sanford of Avon, IN, Sue Sanford Larkin of LaGrange, GA; 11 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and a sister, JoAnne Damon-Franks of Wawaka, IN. Bette is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth; a son, Bruce Hazelton; and sisters, Lois Marsh and Laura Jean Crossland.

Bette was a kindergarten teacher her entire adult life.  She loved to work in her yard, spend time with her family and travel.  Bette was a member of the Ligonier United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and was a member of The Women’s Study Club.

A gathering of family and friends will take place from 9:30 am – 11:30 am on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway South, Ligonier, Indiana 46767. A service will be held to commemorate the life of Bette at 11:30 am on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at the funeral home. Pastor Jean Ness  will officiate.
