Earnest Dean Barnes

Earnest Dean Barnes, age 78, of Elkhart, IN, passed away at home as the result of natural causes on Tuesday, November 14, 2017. He was born on July 23, 1939 the son of Oscar and Jennie (Bucanan) Barnes. On July 1, 1967 he married Alice Pappas; she preceded him in death on October 25, 2013.

Ernie was both a good old boy and a kind man. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy and attended the Apostolic Pentecostal Church in Goshen with his family for many years. Ernie was a bit ornery, and was not an angel, yet he was angel to many in need. He would give the shirt off his back to anyone. Ernie deeply loved his family. Especially his grandchildren & great-grandchildren. He was an extremely talented musician and loved to fish.  Ernie worked detailing cars, for many years and could bondo or duct tape anything!

Ernie is survived by four children, Mary Gilchrist of Elkhart, Erma (John) Grover of Goshen, Tammy (Jeff) Grover of New Milford, PA, and James (Melissa) Barnes of Elkhart; seven grandchildren, Molly, Brandon, Rachel, Drake, Jay, Blake, and Katie; two great-grandchildren, Alice and Zoie; and a nephew, Brant Teeters of Fort Wayne. He was preceded in death by his parents and nine sibings.

A funeral service will be held in Ernie’s honor on Thursday November 16, 2017 at 6PM at the Apostolic Pentecostal Church, 63983 CR. 15, Goshen, IN 46526. Rev. Patrick Blevins and Bishop Jack DeVault will officiate. A graveside service will be held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola, IN on Friday November 17 at 10 AM.

Family and friends will be received at the church on Thursday November 16, 2013 from 5-6 PM prior to the service.  Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
