Dorothy K. Bish

Dorothy K. Bish, age 82, of Albion, went home to be with the Lord on January 19, 2024 at Orchard Pointe Health Care in Kendallville. She was born on December 21, 1941 to George & Florence (Westfall) Garvin in Rochester, IN. On September 17, 1960, Dorothy married Robert Wayne “Bob” Bish and shared 60 years of marriage with him. He preceded her in death in 2020.

Dorothy was a 1959 graduate of Ligonier High School. She worked various jobs over the years including Dari Point as a waitress, a typesetter at Stahly Quality Printing, as the church secretary at Ligonier United Methodist Church, and in the office at Star of the West Milling. Dorothy was always a very active community member. She was a member of the Ligonier United Methodist Church, The Order of the Eastern Star #325, served on the Noble House Board of Directors, and was secretary for the West Noble Food Pantry for many years. Dorothy enjoyed bowling with her women’s bowling league in Ligonier and was a Northern Indiana CB club member. In later years she enjoyed golfing with her Wawasee Belles Golf League and attended Rock Steady Boxing (therapy for Parkinsons) in Garrett. She was an avid cook and shared her love of cooking with her grandchildren and friends. She liked gardening, playing games with family, and traveling. Dorothy loved her family and cherished her time with them. Above all, her faith in God and serving others for Him was the most important thing to her.

Dorothy is survived by two sons, Jeffrey (Joel Helen) Bish of Topeka, and Mark Bish of Albion; two grandchildren, Sarah (Danielle) Haley of Huntington, and Emmy (Simon) Bellamy of Grand Rapids, MI; and a sister, Susan Thuillard of Ligonier; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob; her brother, Jack Garvin; and a sister, Carole Bewley.

Friends and family will be received on Thursday, January 25th, 2024 from 4-7:30 PM at Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway South, Ligonier, IN 46767. There will be an Order of the Eastern Star Service following the visitation at 7:30 PM. There will also be a time of visitation 1 hour prior to the funeral service on Friday.

There will be a funeral service held in Dorothy’s honor on Friday, January 26th, 2024 at Yeager Funeral Home at 2:00 PM. Pastor Jean Ness  and Pastor Bret Frymier will officiate. Burial will follow at Salem Cemetery in Ligonier.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Ligonier United Methodist Church Youth Missions, 466 Townline Rd., Ligonier, IN 46767 or Rock Steady Boxing, 121 N. Randolph St., Garrett, IN 46738.
