Donald L Underwood Jr.

Donald L. Underwood, Jr., 86, of Wawaka, passed away on November 30, 2018 in Syracuse, IN.  He was born on December 8, 1931 in Fort Wayne, IN to Donald L. and Flawey (Johnson) Underwood, Sr.   Donald married Georgia Caskey on January 19, 1955.  She preceded him in death on May 15, 2000. He then married Wanda Slone on September 21, 2001.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda, of Wawaka, IN; a daughter, Sherry (Thomas) Martin of Napierville, IL; a son, David (Mary) Underwood of Wawaka, IN; 7 Grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are a half-sister and two half-brothers: Joan (Doug) Gallagher, Robert (Janet) Underwood and Ronald (Diane) Underwood, all of Traverse City, MI.

In addition to his first wife, Georgia, Mr. Underwood was preceded in death by: a brother, Bud Smith; a sister, Vera Rosenogle; a step-brother, Donald Smith; and two step-sisters; Velma Baumbaugh and Beverly Stephenson.

Donald was a lifelong area resident and graduated from Syracuse High School. He served his country honorably in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea.  He was also a member of the American Legion.

A funeral service in Donald's honor will be held on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at 12:00 PM at Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway South; Ligonier, IN 46767. Pastor Jimmy Shepherd will officiate. Burial will follow at Sparta Cemetery in Kimmell, IN.

There will be a time of Visitation prior to the Funeral Service on Tuesday from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon, at the funeral home.
