David R. Fought

David R. Fought, age 85, of Topeka, Indiana passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 3, 2023 while doing what he loved, farming. He was born on September 15, 1938 the son of Robert M. and Dorothy (Frick) Fought on the Fought family farm that was founded in 1852 in Topeka. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1956 and served 6 years in the Army Reserve. On March 18, 1961 he married Bonnie Sather in LaGrange, Indiana; she preceded him in death on June 7, 2009.

David farmed his entire life. He was born and died on the family farm. David never slowed down and drove truck in “semi-retirement” and enjoyed spending winters in Florida. He also served 25 years on the Topeka Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of Topeka United Methodist Church. David loved his family, farming, and spending time at the coffee shop with his friends.

He is survived by two sons, Martel “Marty” D. Fought of Topeka, IN and Daniel “Dan” W. Fought of Topeka, IN; a daughter, Jayne R. (Clyde Carter) Fought of Brevard, NC; three grandchildren, Benjamin Weigel, Samantha (Fredric) Cunningham, Garrett Lamb; two great-grandchildren, Henrik Weigel and Blaine Lamb; and siblings Deanna J. (Jack) Moser of Goshen and Rosemary (Harold) Targgart of Wolcottville, Indiana; and his longtime companion, Joyce Ackerman of LaGrange, Indiana.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2023  at 10:00 AM at Topeka United Methodist Church, 124 West Pine Street, Topeka, IN 46571 with Pastors Jeff Starkey, Tamera Gerber, and Harold Gingerich officiating. Burial will follow at Eden Cemetery, Topeka, IN.

Viewing will be Tuesday, November 7, 2023 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway South, Ligonier, IN. There will also be an hour of calling from 9-10 AM prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.

Memorial contributions will be to the Topeka United Methodist Church for the care of Eden Cemetery or your local Hospice organization.
