Claude Mitchell

Claude Mitchell, age 95,  of Ligonier, Indiana, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2024 at Avalon Village.  He was born on July 26, 1928 in Ligon, Kentucky to Dewey and Dona Catherine (Tackett) Mitchell. Claude married Carmel J. Caudill on May 5, 1947; she preceded him in death on April 19, 2009.

Claude grew up in Kentucky, served in the United States Army, and moved to Ligonier, Indiana in 1960. Claude was a very hard worker. He worked in construction when he was younger, at All Metal in Ligonier for many years, and retired from Tenneco in the 1990's. Claude loved to fish year round whether on water or ice. Claude enjoyed raising a garden, spending time with his grandchildren, playing bingo & cards, and watching Kentucky and Indiana college basketball. He was also a member of the West Noble American Legion Post 243.

Claude will be missed by his son Danny (Nila) Mitchell of Ligonier; Two grandchildren, Chad (Kim) Mitchell of Ligonier and Bret Mitchell of Auburn, Indiana; and one great grandchild, Chase (Janae) Mitchell of Kendallville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Howard Mitchell, Lloyd Mitchell, Toy Mitchell;  and two sisters, Maudine Caudill and Ettabell Gluba.

A funeral service will be held in Claude's honor on Friday, May 10, 2024 at 11 am at Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway South; Ligonier, IN 46767. Pastor Jimmy Shepherd will officiate. Burial will follow at Wolf Lake Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received from 4-8 pm on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at Yeager Funeral Home. There will also be an hour of visitation  prior to the service on Friday.
