Byron L. Fought, age 86, passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2025 in Auburn, Indiana. He was born on January 26, 1939 in Ligonier, Indiana to Owen and Irene (Nelson) Fought. He married Marilyn Daugherty in Arlington, Virginia on June 23, 1962.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Fought of Ligonier, Indiana; children, Cary Fought of Ligonier, Roger Fought of Ligonier, Colleen Kelley of Auburn, Tim (Amber) Fought of Noblesville, Janet Fought of Auburn, and Owen Fought of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Stephan Kelley, Kendall Kelley, Cameron Kelley, Bethany Kelley, Mallorie Brown, Ava Plank, Jade Fought, Adalyn Fought, and Jacqueline Fought; five great-grandchildren; brother, Harold Fought of Ligonier. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Homer Nelson, Ernest Fought, Everett Fought, and Russell Fought; half-brother, Orvin Fought; half-sister’s, Marcille Painter and Erma Buckles.
Byron, a testament to his craftsmanship, not only built his own home but also found joy in transforming it further through various renovation projects in his spare time. He was always thrilled to attend an auction. He was a fan of country music and traveling. Byron's favorite pastime was watching his grandchildren in choir, band, dance, play ball, and other various sports activities.
A gathering of family and friends will take place on Thursday, August 7, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway South, Ligonier, Indiana 46767. A service will be held in Byron’s honor at 7:00 PM on Thursday following the visitation at the funeral. A military graveside service will take place at Marion National Cemetery, 1700 E 38th Street, Marion, Indiana, 46953, on Friday, August 8, 2025 at 11:00 AM.
