Bonita C. Stump, 88, of Kimmell passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2024 in Columbia City. Mrs. Stump was born April 22, 1936 in Roann, IN to Melvin and Esther (Miller) Bender. On April 8, 1955, she married J. Hal Stump, who passed away in 2014 after 58 years of marriage.
Mrs. Stump spent her formative years on the family farm and attended all eight grades at York Center School. She was active in 4-H, showing beef cattle for many years. The family moved to Albion in 1950 and she graduated from Albion High School in 1954. During her high school years she worked at John & Mid's Restaurant for 35 cents an hour and tips, which were few in number.
After high school, she worked at Napoleon Egg Auction for three years and later retired from West Noble School Corporation as a secretary and treasurer after 35 years of service. She was a member of Ormas Baptist Church all of her married life, where she served as a teacher, treasurer, and prayer leader for the ladies group. She enjoyed visiting the sick in nursing homes and watching her children, grandchildren, and great grands in their activities.
Surviving are two sons, Brian Stump and Edward (Stacia) Stump all of Kimmell; one daughter, Connie Z. (Todd) Pritchard of Kimmell; six grandchildren, Janelle (Scott) Schmitt, Justin Stump, Tabitha Thompson, Andrew Stump, Todd (Cheyenne) Pritchard, and James Pritchard; and many great grandchildren, along with many step grandchildren and many step great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and two sisters, Phyllis Ott and Irene Bender.
A funeral service in honor of Mrs. Stump will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at Ormas Baptist Church, 8962 N 300 W, Columbia City, IN 46725. Burial will follow at Thorn Cemetery.
Friends and family will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 on Friday, May 17, 2024 at Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway S, Ligonier, IN 46767 and on Saturday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Wolf Lake Baptist Church to benefit the missionaries she supported.
