Norman E. Thomas

Norman Eugene Thomas, age 76, of South Bend, IN, passed away on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at 11:05 PM at Healthwin Nursing Home in South Bend, IN.


Mr. Thomas was born on February 24, 1934 in Teegarden , IN to Clarence and Nina Mabel (Cook) Thomas. On October 22, 1955 he married Marie G. Ice, she preceded him in death on August 2, 2001. He served his country honorably in the United States Air Force and worked for Wells Aluminum of North Liberty, IN, Walgreen’s in Mishawaka, IN, and The Ridge Company of South Bend, IN. He was also a member of the The Boy Scouts of America and One Accord Christian Fellowship Church.

He is survived by 5 children, Pamm S. Thomas of South Bend, Marilyn (Christopher Sr.) Cherrone of Lakeville, Robert Thomas of South Bend, Steve Thomas of South Bend, David (Cathy) Thomas of South Bend; 18 grandchildren, R. Andrew Barnes, Michael J. (Rebecca) Barnes, S. Paul (Amber) Barnes, Pammela Lynne (Shane) Richards, Christopher Cherrone Jr., Freedom Cherrone, Misty (Aaron) Taberski, Tabitha Ellis, Tracy Schultz, Rebecca Woolet, Crystal (David) Viches, Heather Thomas, Stephanie Thomas, Anna Thomas, Jonathan Coleman, Audrey Searfoss, Guy Searfoss, Crystal Coleman; 21 great-grandchildren, Jeremy Hall, Cody Andrew Barnes, Destanie Barnes, Anistazia Barnes, Michael J. Barnes II, Gabriel Barnes, Christopher Harwood, Dylan Harwood, Nathaniel Barnes, Daron Clifton, Joshua Richards, Shane Richards, Dakota Cherrone, Damon Cherrone, Makayla Cherrone, Johnathan Cherrone, Aden Taberski, Breanna Schultz, Becca Woolet, Will Woolet, Jocelyn Woolet, Hannah Hansche, Kaileo Hansche, Bryannah Purnell, Brandy Nicole, William Lee; a brother, Ronald (Lori) Thomas of Argos, IN, and a sister Beverly (Jr.) Sims of North Liberty, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a grandson, Michael Allen Thomas; a great-granddaughter, Alexis Ashley Blood Barnes; a brother, Merle Thomas; a sister, Sandra Frick; and a step-great- grandchild, Adam Coleman.

A funeral service will be held in Mr. Thomas’s honor on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Zimmerman-Inman Funeral Home, 1109 Lincolnway West, Osceola, IN 46561 with Pastor Patrick Blevins officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

There will be a time of visitation on Sunday, December 5, 2010 from 3-8 PM and 1 hour prior to the funeral service on Tuesday at Zimmerman- Inman Funeral Home.
