Russell "Butch" Sherer Jr.

Russell Sherer, age 87, of Topeka, IN passed away Monday November 29, 2010 at 1:00 AM at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer.

Russell was born on March 3, 1923 in Topeka, Indiana to Russell & Laura Sherer Sr. On December 9, 1942 he married Arlene M. Gangwer.

Mr. Sherer was a lifetime resident of Topeka. He graduated from Topeka High School and attended Ford Trade School in Detroit, MI. Russell then went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Army from 1943-1945. He was also a member of the Topeka Baptist Church for many years as well as the the American Legion.

Russell worked as a salesman in the roofing industry for several years and retired from farming and RV transportation in the late 1970's.

Survivors include his wife, Arlene Scherer of Topeka, IN; four children, Connie Pounds of Boulder Creek, CA, Eugene (Tracy) Sherer of Wolcottville, IN, Peggy Wilson of Georgia, Nancy Sherer of Greer, SC; 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings.

A private family gathering will be held in his honor.
