Ervin Dean Eash

Ervin Dean Eash, age 64, of Ligonier, IN, passed away unexpectedly on August 16, 2010 at his residence.

Mr. Eash was born on November 18, 1945 to Enos and Maude (Slabach) Eash. He was a lifetime area resident.

Ervin retired as a welder from Redman Homes in Topeka after more than 35 years of service. During his retirement years, Ervin enjoyed meeting the transportation needs of the local Amish community. He served his country honorably in the Navy from 1963-67 during which time he served 1 year in Antarctica during "Operation Deep Freeze." He was a member and past officer of the Ligonier Elks Lodge 451, American Legion Post 253 in Ligonier, VFW Post 4717 in Wolf Lake, Ligonier Eagles Lodge, and a past member of the Tri-County Shuffle Board League. Ervin lived a very full and active life. He had raced at New Paris Speedway in the 70's, enjoyed golf, bowling, shuffle board, Nascar, horseshoes, and was a very avid reader. Before health complications slowed him, Ervin was a selfless volunteer of his time.

Surviving are his companion, Carol J. Gunder of Ligonier; five children, Greg (Krista) Eash of Ligonier, Marcus (Heather) Eash of Albion, Chris (Janelle) Eash of Ligonier, Pam (Greg) Johnson of Woodlawn, TN, Scott (Jennifer) Gunder of Warsaw; 11 grandchildren; 1 brother, Wilber (Orpha) Eash of Purdin, Missouri; 4 sisters, Rose (Henry) Zook of Sarasota, FL, Mary Etta Schmucker of Nappanee, Polyana Otto of LaGrange and Sarah Jean (Clarence) Chupp of Bremen. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 19, 2010 from 5-9 PM at Yeager Funeral Home in Ligonier. A graveside service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Hawpatch Cemetery in Topeka.
