Melvin E. Twaits

Melvin E. Twaits, age 83, of Kimmell, IN passed away December 10, 2009 at Rivercrest Specialty Hospital in Mishawaka, IN.

Melvin was born July 9, 1926 in Sparta Township, IN to the late John R. “Shortie” & Lora (Hart) Twaits. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy on the USS Chenango from 1942-46. He retired as a maintenance supervisor at Essex Wire & later United Technologies after 30 plus years of service. Melvin was a member of the American Legion Post 243 in Ligonier. He also enjoyed farming, gardening, working on cars, & fixing things.

He is survived by two daughters: Sarah “Sue” (Ron) Browning of Bear Lake & Melanie (Jeff) Creek of Huntertown, IN; 4 Granddaughters: Carla Ladig of Columbia City, IN, Gracie & Cierra Creek of Huntertown, IN, Brandi Twaits of Ashley, IN, 1 Great-Grandson: Kyle Phllips of Columbia City, IN, and a sister: Alice Cripe of Millersburg. He was preceeded in death by Melvin Scott Twaits & 2 Sisters: Rose Twaits & Ruth Davidson.

A funeral service will be held on Monday December 14, 2009 at 12 Noon at Yeager Funeral Home in Ligonier with Pastor Wray McCalister officiating. Burial will follow at Stringtown Cemetery in Washington Township, IN.

Friends may call Monday December 14, 2009 from 10AM -12 Noon prior to the Funeral Service. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 243 in Ligonier, IN.
