Fred A. Ott, age 88, of Ligonier, IN passed away at his residence Friday September 11, 2009 at 2:30 AM after a four month battle with cancer. He was born March 28, 1921 in Elkhart County to Ivan and Faye (Stoner) Ott.
He was a lifelong area resident. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II and was held as a prisoner of war for 19 months for which he was awarded the P.O.W. medal. He was also a recipient of a Purple Heart with an Oak Leaf Cluster.
He retired from Becker's Plumbing, Heating and Electrical. He was a member of the Ligonier United Methodist Church, the American Legion Post 243 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He married Jean Boyd in 1945. She survives along with two sons, Wayne Ott of Syracuse and Steven (Diane) Ott of Vermillion, OH, 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, 1 sister, Lillian Northup of Ocala, FL ,& 1 brother, Clifford Ott of Spokaine, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call Sunday September 13, 2009 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Yeager Funeral Home in Ligonier. The service will take place on Monday September 14, 2009 at 10:30 AM at the funeral home with Rev. Byron Kaiser officiating. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery, Ligonier.
