Candice Michelle Targgart, age 34, of Kimmell, IN passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2017 surrounded by family and her closest friends. She had fought a very courageous battle with cancer for the last year. She was born September 23, 1982 the daughter of JC and Jennifer (Boyer) Schrock in Joliet, IL. On July 7, 2007 she married Travis N. Targgart in Kimmell, IN at the family farm; he survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Layne and Brock Targgart at home; parents, JC (Katharine) Schrock of Goshen, IN and Jennifer (Harley) Beechy of Millersburg, IN; grandparents, Lauretta Schrock of Goshen, IN, Dolores and George Elenbaas of Syracuse, IN, Jack and Doris Lund of Goshen, IN, and Elva Beechy of Millersburg, IN; four siblings, Courtney (Kacey) Lash of Millersburg, IN, Carter Schrock of Millersburg, Indiana, Caitlin (Max) Kritzman of Kimmell, IN, and Nathaniel Beechy of Millersburg, IN; three step siblings, Chris Todd of Fort Wayne, IN, Jackie (Tony) Belton of Fort Wayne, IN and Jessie (Dave) Schmoekel of Columbia City, IN; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by grandparents Clifford Boyer Jr, Joe Schrock, and Beulah Beechy; as well as her father-in-law, Roger Targgart.
Candice graduated from West Noble High School in 2001 and then from Purdue University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in veterinary technology. She worked for Calfcare in North Manchester from 2005-2008 before returning to Milford Animal Clinic, where she had worked during high school. She was incredibly passionate about the laparascopic deer breeding program at Milford and was well-known for her knowledge and expertise on the subject. She most recently worked as a registered veterinary technologist at Crossroads Food Animal Veterinary Services. Candice loved animals and was known for taking in any furry friend in need of a home.
Candice was a devoted member of Strong Tower Worship Center, where she was also a member of the women’s ministry team. She knew no stranger, and everyone she met became a true friend. Her smile could light up any room and her sweet demeanor and steadfast nature made her a trusted friend and confidant to many. In addition to her talent for treating animals, Candi was an amazing baker. Her famous chocolate chip cookies are renowned among her circle of family and friends and will never taste quite as sweet without her special touch. Above all, Candi's first priority and biggest love was being a mom to her two boys and a devoted wife.
A funeral service in Candice’s honor will be held on Monday April 3, 2017 at 11 a.m.at Stone’s Hill Community Church, 151 West Stone’s Hill Road, Ligonier, IN 46767. Pastor Josh Vargas will officiate. Burial will take place at Sparta Cemetery in Kimmell, IN. Family and friends will be received from 2-8 p.m. on Sunday, April 2, 2016 at Stone’s Hill Community Church.
