MARIAN L. SAYLER DICKINSON WHITENECK

Carmel – Marian L. Sayler Dickinson Whiteneck, 85, died March 20, 2016, in Carmel, Indiana. Marian was born February 22, 1931, in Topeka, Kansas, to William A. and Mary F. Sayler. She and her late husband, Thomas L. Whiteneck, who passed away March 2, 2016, resided in Fishers, Indiana. Tom and Marian were founding members of the New Hope Presbyterian Church in Fishers, Indiana. Marian was instrumental in creating the library at New Hope and authored a book on the church history. Marian graduated from Warsaw High School in 1949. She married Floyd E. (Bud)Dickinson in 1953 and lived in Ligonier, Indiana until 1981. Following the passing of Bud and the raising of their four children, Marian decided to return to college. She attended IU Ft. Wayne, then the University of Texas, Austin, completing her degree in 1983. Marian then moved to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where she worked in the medical Cytogenetics Laboratory of the King Faisal Hospital. The time spent there three years) gave her the opportunity to travel extensively throughout the Middle East, the Far East and Europe. Marian had many wonderful stories to tell her family and friends regarding her travels and experiences. She returned to the United States in 1987, moving to Fishers to live close to her children and grandchildren. She continued her career at the Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis, working in the Medical Cytogenetics department until her retirement. Marian enjoyed travelling, gardening, history, genealogy, sewing, opera, classical music and spending time with friends and family. Marian is survived by her beloved children: Susan (Michael) Tomlinson, Indianapolis; Rosemary (Gaylord) West, Fishers; Jennifer Long (and the late David Long), Lafayette; David (Teresa) Dickinson, Indianapolis; two stepchildren, fourteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Carol (Bill) Huffer, Warsaw; J. William (Margaret) Sayler, Moscow, Idaho; A family graveside service will be held in Ligonier on March 23, 2016.
