John Franklin Godshalk 82, of Sturgis Michigan, died on February 15, 2016, at Sturgis Hospital in Michigan. He passed away of natural causes. Mr. Godshalk was born December 14, 1933 in Carroll County Indiana. He was a lifelong truck driver for a variety of companies including Dallas, Mavis and Logistics by Bontrager. He loved traveling and was featured in the Million Dollar Club.
He was the son of Robert and Florence Godshalk of Elkhart, Indiana. John graduated from Elkhart High School in 1952. He served his country in the Air Force. On February 15, 1995 he married Sharon (Nisley) Godshalk. He is survived by one brother, Stanley (Karen) Godshalk of Elkhart, Indiana. Three sons, John Franklin of Cromwell, Indiana, Tony (Marilyn) Layman of Bergton, Virginia, Ray Sargent of Elkhart; two daughters, Anne (Joe) Howard of Elkhart, Brenda (Steve) Doing of Garland, Texas; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
He is preceded in death by his wife Sharon Godshalk; a son, Robert Lee Layman; and a great-granddaughter, Da’ Jeianna Smith. He spent lots of happy hours fishing, camping and watching Nascar. He enjoyed driving his own race-car at New Paris, Mottville, South Bend and Plymouth Speedways.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 5, 2016 from 2 PM- 4 PM at the Eagles Club 1207 W. Chicago Rd. Sturgis, MI. Memorial gifts may be made to the Eagles Club.
