Charles L. "Chuck" Smith

Charles L. “Chuck” Smith, 87, of Westler Lake, passed away early Wednesday morning, December 9, 2015 at Parkview Noble Hospital in La Grange, IN. He was born August 29, 1928 the son of Dee and Ruby (Stiffner) Smith. On June 18, 1949 he married Phyllis Birch in Ligonier, IN. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Phyllis Smith of Westler Lake; two daughters, Karen (Dale) Long of Urbana, OH and Becky (Dave) Spencer of Dallas Lake; five grandchildren, Shelly (John) Altimus of Ligonier, IN; Kim (Brent) Caroline of New Haven, IN, Randy Stillings of Marysville, OH, Josh (Lindsey) Spencer of Cincinnati, OH, and Ryan (Cortney) Spencer of Topeka, IN; 11 great-grandchildren, Brandon (Brittany) Altimus of Westler Lake, Jeremy Altimus of Ligonier, Meagan (Matt) Cheviron of New Haven, IN, Gage Mallett of New Haven, Reagan Stillings and Addilyn Stillings both of Marysville, OH, Kensington and Kaison Spencer of Cincinnati, OH, Rylan and Emmery Spencer both of Topeka, IN; two great-great-grandchildren, Asher Altimus of Westler Lake and Gracelynn Cheviron of New Haven, IN; a brother, Eldon Smith of Ligonier, IN; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Norma Anspaugh. He owned and operated Chuck Smith Auto Parts in Albion for 25 years prior to his retirement in 1994. He also served in the United States Navy Reserves. Chuck enjoyed boating, fishing and of course cars. He leaves behind his beloved cat, BJ. Above all, he loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. A memorial visitation will take place on Saturday, June 18, 2016 from 1PM to 3PM at Yeager Funeral Home – 1589 Lincolnway South Ligonier, IN. A private family committal will take place at the Sparta Cemetery in Kimmell, IN at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association or the LaGrange Ark Animal Shelter.
