Elsie M. Thacker

LIGONIER -- Elsie M. Thacker, 97, of Ligonier, formerly of Matador, Texas, died at 8:12 p.m. Friday (Jan. 2, 2009) at Avalon Village, Ligonier.

She was born Dec. 30, 1911, in Yoakom County, Texas, to W.M. and Annie (Drennan) Vaughn. On Oct. 6, 1928, she married Clyde Gilbert in Roaring Springs, Texas. He died in 1976. She married Freeman Thacker on Dec. 1, 1978, in New Mexico. He died in June 1984.

Mrs. Thacker is survived by one daughter, Marcia Middlebrooks of Topeka; three grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 25 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by seven brothers, four sisters and one great-grandson.

Mrs. Thacker formerly worked as a waitress. She moved from Matador to Ligonier in 2002.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Matador and attended Topeka United Methodist Church.

Friends may call one hour prior to the 2 p.m. Monday funeral service at Topeka United Methodist Church. Pastor Diana Siegel will officiate. Burial will take place at a later date. Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway South, Ligonier, is assisting the family with arrangements.
