Phyllis J. DeLong, age 78, of Ligonier, IN passed away Friday, May 8, 2015 at 10:10 PM at Avalon Village in Ligonier. She was born on January 2, 1937 in Kanawha County, West Virginia to Fred and Tressah (Greene) DeLong. Phyllis served her country honorably in the United States Army from 1967-1979. Ms. DeLong moved to the Ligonier area in the late 80’s coming from South Carolina. She was a member of the American Legion Post 243 in Ligonier where she served as Adjutant for 18 years. She worked for the Ligonier Public Library for fifteen years and attended the Richville United Methodist Church. Phyllis was an avid reader, enjoyed walking, and loved telling a good joke. She enjoyed music, particularly 50’s and 60’s Rock and Roll. She is survived by four nieces; Pat (Bill) Sprague of Ligonier, Beverly (Bill) Wilson of West Virginia, Belinda (Vulcan) Killius of South Carolina, Mary Susan (Michael) Armstrong-Smith of Indianapolis, and Patty Armstrong of Ligonier; several Great and Great-Great Nieces and Nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and a brother. A funeral will be held in Ms. DeLong’s honor will be on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at 3:00 PM at Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway South, Ligonier, IN 46767, with Pastor Mary Armstrong- Smith officiating. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery in Ligonier, IN. A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 from 1-3 PM prior to the service at Yeager Funeral Home.
