James O. Martin age 94 of Millersburg, IN passed away on April 20, 2015 at his residence. He was born in Macomb, Illinois on January 3, 1921 to Flaude E. and Leah D. (Unger) Martin. James married Betty (Poland) on August 27, 1944 in Macomb, IL. She preceded in death in 1986. James married Alice V. (Houchin) of Minneapolis, MN on September 24, 1988 in Galesburg, Illinois.
James graduated in 1939 from Rushville High School in Rushville, IL. In 1943, he completed a four- year machinist apprenticeship at Caterpillar in Peoria, IL. He then moved to Goshen, IN and worked for Penn Controls as a tool and die Machinist. He also worked for Reese Hitch, Goshen, CTS, Middlebury, and Active Products, Marion. He retired in 1989 from Abitibi-Price, Middlebury. He also farmed from 1955 until 2003. James was a member of Strong Tower Worship Center in Ligonier, IN. He enjoyed gardening, spending time with his wife, family, and traveling to all 5 corners of the United States with his wife Alice.
He is survived by his wife, Alice; 2 sons, Donald J. Martin of South Bend, IN and Robert D. Martin of Uniontown, OH. 1 step son, Donald Houchin of Minneapolis, MN. 1 daughter, Janice E. Martin of Indianapolis, IN. 3 Step daughters, Carol Walker of St. Louis, MO, Rosemary Patterson of Lubbock, TX, Denise Ornsteen of Minneapolis, MN. 1 brother, John D. Martin of Galesburg, IL. 1 sister, Julia Leonard of North Carolina. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents, his first wife; Betty Poland, 4 brothers, Jerry, Earl, Joe, and Jack Martin. 2 Sisters, Joann Martin, and Etta Jane Walters.
There will be a funeral Service in Mr. Martin’s Honor at 10am on Saturday April 25, 2015 at Stone’s Hill Community Church, (151 W Stones Hill Rd, Ligonier, IN 46767) with Pastor Josh Vargas and Rev. William Parks Officiating. Burial will take place at Brown Cemetery in Millersburg.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Strong Tower Worship Center.
A time of visitation will be held on Friday April 24, 2015 from 2pm-8pm at Stone’s Hill Community Church.
