Mary L. Lee, 85, of Goshen, passed away Thursday, March 12 at Courtyard Healthcare Center, 2400 College Ave. She was born November 9, 1929, in Lula, Mississippi to the late Rosa Lee Mapkin and Johnny Johnson. Mary united in marriage with Baker Lee Sr where they were blessed with fifteen children. In 1968, Mary moved to Chicago, IL where she became a member of New Greater Exodus Missionary Baptist Church. She served on the Nurse’s board and later on the Mother’s board. In 2005, Mary L. Lee moved to Elkhart, IN where she became a member of Community Missionary Baptist Church under Reverend Lefate Owens. Mary instilled a strong work-ethic in her children. She showed them how to love and protect one another. More importantly, she taught them to love the Lord. She leaves to survive in her memory: twelve (12) Wesley (Mattie) Lee, John (Rosa) Lee, J.W. (Dora) Lee, Carrie Mae Walker, Willie (Edith) Lee, Mary Lee, Delorse Walker, Vernita Lee, Josephine Lee, Patricia Lee, Michael Lee, and Terrie Lee; forty-five (45) grandchildren; ninety-one (91) great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Baker Lee Sr.; three (3) children Baker Lee Jr., Eugene Lee, Rosetta Lee; ten (10) siblings (Nate, Felton, Hontu, Jim, Ella Lee, Laura, Versie, Nicey, Lunetha Moore, and Essie Mae Sherden). Her homegoing service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 21, at Community Missionary Baptist Church, 228 Chapman Ave., Elkhart. Burial will follow in Prairie Street Cemetery in Elkhart. Repast will follow the burial at Studebaker Park Pavilion, 1020 McDonald St., Elkhart. Visitation with the family will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the service.
