Joseph G. Stump, age 89, of Ligonier, IN passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2014 at 4:50 PM at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, IN. He was born on January 3, 1925 to Asa and Pearl (Galloway) Stump in Kimmell, Indiana. On December 23, 1943 Joseph married Lois Winebrenner in Little Rock, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on February 24, 2002. He then married Amanda ‘Becky” Zehr in 2004. She preceded him in death in 2008.
He graduated from Wolf Lake High School in 1943 & went on to serve his country honorably in the U. S. Army during World War II and was a participant in the Battle of the Bulge. Joseph received the Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He had worked as a farmer in the area his entire life. He was a member of Wawasee Chapel. Joseph was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Surviving are children, Judy (Terry) Riordan of Lincoln, NE, Norris (Judy Rohrer) Stump of Cromwell, Joseph Glen (Ellena Collins) Stump Jr. of Grabill, Kay (Les) Rosenogle of Ligonier, Esther (John) Harlan of Ligonier; two stepchildren, Donna (Greg) Conrad of Arizona, Carol Vanoni of Ligonier; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruby (Fred) Campbell of Ligonier; several stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Lowell Stump, and a sister Evelyn Gaerte.
A funeral service will be held in Mr. Stump’s honor on Friday, January 2, 2015 at 2 PM at Yeager Funeral Home with Pastors Harlan Steffen and Brad Cox officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery in Wilmot, IN.
There will be a time of visitation on Friday, January 2, 2015 from 10-2 PM prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Salem Cemetery, Wilmot, Indiana.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Northeast Indiana Honor Flight or Wawasee Lakeside Chapel.
