Irene Hochstetler-Sprunger

Irene Louise Hochstetler-Sprunger, age 93, of Ligonier passed away on Monday, October 27, 2014 at 3:15 PM at Riverside Village in Elkhart. She was born on June 4, 1921 to Melvin and Mary Alice (Cripe) Dunafin in Elkhart County, IN. On March 12, 1938 she married Earl E. “Abe” Hochstetler. He preceded her in death on August 4, 1972. On March 3, 1984, Irene married Lynn Sprunger and moved to DeLeon Springs, Florida. Lynn passed away on August 1, 1993. Irene then moved back to Indiana in 2010.

Irene and her husband, Abe, owned Irene’s Donut Shop located in Ligonier, Indiana for over 20 years.

She is survived by two sons, Raymond (Arletah) Hochstetler of Elkhart, Jerry W. (Debra) Hochstetler of Ligonier; a daughter-in-law, Darlene Hochstetler of Middlebury; nine grandchildren, LeAnne (Wayne) Yoder of Howe, Pamela Hochstetler of Osceola, Paula LaPlace of Elkhart, Lisa (Ron Yoder of Middlebury, Lori (Jeff) Riley of LaGrange, David (Kristine) Hochstetler of Elkhart, Patricia Hochstetler of Elkhart, Ryan (Heather) Hochstetler of Papillion, Nebraska, and Troy Hochstetler of Fort Wayne; fifteen great-grandchildren with one due in November; and 8 great-great-grandchildren; also surviving are three stepchildren, Orland (Royann) Sprunger of Topeka, Jim (Darlene) Sprunger of the Rockwall, Texas, and Shirley (Dennis) Hollis of Kingwood, Texas; several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands; parents; son Robert; grandson Brian Edward Hochstetler; brother Irvin Dunafin; sisters, Violet Niece, Margaret Keller, Lila Dunafin, Gertrude Miller, and step-sons Tim and Paul Sprunger.

There will be a funeral service held in Mrs. Sprunger’s honor on Saturday November 1, 2014 at 11AM at Yeager Funeral Home-1589 Lincolnway South; Ligonier, IN 46767 with Pastor John Lutton officiating. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery in Ligonier.

There will be a time of visitation from 2-4 & 6-8 PM on Friday October 31, 2014 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Ligonier Church of the Nazarene or the DeLand Church of the Nazarene, 913 East New York Avenue, DeLand, Florida 32724.
