Katie Bontrager

Katie (Thomas) Bontrager, age 93, of Ligonier, IN passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2014 at 7:09 PM at home. She was born on March 6, 1921 to Ben and Lovina (Mullet) Thomas in Dodge City, Kansas. Katie married Andrew L. Bontrager who preceded her in death on April 23, 1982 after 38 years of holy matrimony.

Mrs. Bontrager is survived by three daughters, Amanda (Perry Jay) Yoder of Topeka, Esther (Jacob) Schrock Jr. of LaGrange, Wilma ( Manas) Lehman of Ligonier; seven sons, Perry (Alta Mast) Bontrager of Pardeeville, WI, Leo (Martha Hochstetler) Bontrager of Topeka, Andrew Bontrager Jr. of Phoenix, AZ, Ira (Mary Knepp) Bontrager, Freeman (Norma Barkman) Bontrager, Ben (Vera Hershberger) Bontrager all of Topeka, and Amos (Mary Jane Yoder) Bontrager of Ligonier; one brother, Ira Thomas of Goshen; two sisters, Amanda Stutzman of Mississippi, and Lovina Stutzman of Goshen; 45 Grandchildren; 139 Great Grandchildren; one step-great grandson; two great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Bontrager was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Lovina Thomas; three brothers, Pete, Martin, and Ben Thomas; one sister, Miriam; one grandson and two great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held in Mrs. Bontrager’s honor on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at 9:30 AM at the Katie Bontrager Home, 5942 West 1100N, Ligonier, IN 46767 with Bishop David M. Miller and the Home Ministers officiating. Burial will be in Hawpatch Cemetery.

There will be a time of visitation on Monday, July 21, 2014 beginning at 2 PM and all day Tuesday at the Katie Bontrager home.
