John Hollowell

John R. Hollowell, age 88, of Ligonier, IN passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2014 at 1:50 PM at Avalon Village in Ligonier, IN. He was born on March 11, 1926 to Perry and Gertrude (Hughes) Hollowell in Terre Haute, Indiana. In 1957, John married Julia A. Hiatt. She preceded him in death. He attended Shepherdsville School and in 1943 he joined the Army. He was injured during World War II and received two Purple Hearts. Mr. Hollowell was the street commissioner for Ligonier and retired from the Town of Ligonier. He enjoyed fishing and mushroom hunting. Surviving are his children, Lloyd “Rusty” (Cheryl Beardsley) Hollowell of Topeka, Vic Hiatt, Lana (Mike) Ostrander, Rick Hiatt all of Ligonier, Anita (Johnny) Miller of Kentucky, and Tommy Hollowell of Ligonier; 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren; a brother, Perry Hollowell Jr. of Clinton, Indiana . He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, John; three sisters and one brother. A funeral service will be held in Mr. Hollowell’s honor on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at 11 AM at Yeager Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sparta Cemetery in Kimmell, IN. There will be a time of visitation on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 from 3-8 PM and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to The family.
